Officials from the Department of Civic Education in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development say civic education hubs, including those in Nsanje, are helping empower communities with knowledge on key development issues.
Chief Civic Education Officer, Kondwani Hillary Chitosi, said the hubs are improving awareness on issues such as climate change and disaster preparedness. He cited Traditional Authority Mbenje as one area where communities are showing increased awareness and responsiveness to climate-related challenges, adding that the programme will be extended to Traditional Authorities Tengani and Mlolo to reach more people.
The Chairperson of Civil Society Organizations in Nsanje, Prince Nyakuleha, has commended the initiative, saying it is helping communities participate in development.
